Nigeria has world’s highest rate of out of school children hence, the importance of sending drop outs “who are willing” to return to school back to school, cannot be overemphasized.

A recent statistics shows that about 10.5 million children are out of school in Nigeria, which is the highest rate in the world. The figure indicates that one-third of Nigerian children are not in school, and one in five out-of-school children in the world is a Nigerian. Amongst these numbers are those who desire to return to school but cannot afford their tuition fees and other contingencies. Future Focus Foundation is prepared to go all-out to equip the youths who are willing to go back to school. Willingness will be our major criteria.

•     Nigerian youths are very bright and mostly energetic, we cannot afford to let them channel their energy wrongly hence we must curb it whilst we can by ensuring they are rigtly informed.. and moreso, too many underpriviledged youths in a society can be harmful to the priviledged ones and the society at large… How do you mix roses and thorns in a box without harming the roses?

Dealing with this problem decisively as we have begun doing here at Future Focus Foundation will definitely create a better society for all. However, funding will be the determinant factor to how far we will go with this laudable initiative.

In Partnership with Jude Ifedi Foundation, we have successfully returned a handful of Children back to School from impoverished communities to IDP camps to street kids and ongoing…

These calculated outreaches are designed for those in obvious need of help – Impoverished communities in need of health care, food; business tools etc.

This brings a sense of hope to the hopeless especially when accompanied with some lasting solution…

Our recent outreach to Kubwa with Dr. Olabisi Jagun and Bluescope International Hospitals was indeed a success.

The crowd was indeed overwhelming and some of the indigenes had never done even the most basic health screening before…
They were welcomed in with sweets and little gift items, they were screened and given free medication Courtesy Dr. Bisi Jagun

The impact of awareness campaigns cannot be over-emphasised. Timely sensitization campaigns in the right direction can save us a whole lot of trouble and unnecessary expenses as a society.

Our recent sensitization campaign to the students of Government Secondary School Kawu a rural area in BWARI was on Mental Health and related issues promoting well-being, inclusivity and acceptance.

OVERVIEW:
We cannot afford to ignore the impact of rising mental health concerns: Academic pressures, problems in the home lives of students, issues with peer relationships, managing failure, emerging realisations about gender or sexual identity, or uncertainty about their future are some of the things that can cause a build-up of stressors that trigger a mental concern among students.

Depression, anxiety, body image issues, eating disorders, addictions, and substance abuse disorders are some of the mental health concerns that may arise during this time. It can be a terribly isolating and bleak experience to deal with these mental health concerns while also not knowing what one is going through. It is not surprising then that students end up taking their own life at intervals…

We thank Dr. Olabisi Jagun whose financial support enabled us to provide some gift items and a professional Child Psychologist -who incorporated mental health games into the program to encourage and train these rural kids, fostering a holistic approach to their development.

IMPACT AND RESPONSE:
The impact of this campaign was profound. The children at GSS Kawu were more than delighted to receive us, they were actively engaged and enthusiastic during the mental health games. It was heartening to witness their joy and eagerness to participate, emphasizing the positive influence such initiatives can have on their overall well-being.

Their feedback echoed a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the thoughtful intervention. The materials provided are already making a tangible difference in the students daily learning experiences, and the mental health games have opened up conversations about emotional well-being in a community that often faces unique challenges.

FUTURE POSSIBILITIES:
While the impact of this outreach was significant, we believe there is even more that can be achieved through continued support. Additional outreaches to GSS Kawu and other underserved communities can amplify the positive changes we have initiated. By expanding our efforts, we can provide more resources, implement sustainable programs, and contribute to a lasting transformation in the lives of these children.

FURTHER MORE:
Beyond sensitization campaigns, we believe that one of the best ways to address the mental health crisis among youths today is to incorporate mental health education into the mainstream curriculum. It is important to open the classroom to knowledge and discussions around issues like depression, suicide prevention, sexuality, types of abuse, developing empathy, controlling negative thoughts, or healthy coping mechanisms.

We look forward to more collaborations.

This online and onsite Youth Development initiative is a platform designed to disseminate valuable information to equip youth adequately (with confidence, knowledge, inspiration, skill and empowerment) to thrive across various works of life.

This is mostly an inclusion initiative where we bring together renowned diverse individuals to get different perspectives on topical issues ranging from: Business growth to Personal Development; Career; Culture; Relationships; Economy; Mental health; Nutrition; Leadership etc… creating valuable networking opportunities in the process and deliberately. This goes a long way to practically bridging the generational gap in perspectives when addressing these issues.

This platform also showcases outstanding individuals “mentors and mentees” to inspire youth to do well and be outstanding in whatever they do.

One of our Symposiums was on Career Development and Mental Health titled: “Cultivating Mental Wellness For Career Success” with giveaways to outstanding participants – ranging from free mental health screening vouchers “counselling sessions” to business kits and data.

This event was highly insightful and interactive as our youths seized the opportunity to challenge themselves interacting with our renowned Panelists: Prince Godswill Edward (Entrepreneur and Founder at Prince 7 Youth Development Initiative), Adekoyejo Alabi (Lead Coach at Pathfinder Consulting), ThankGod Ocheho Ugbede (Head Psychologist at Neem Foundation), Chevonne Jibromah (Legal Practitioner and Founder at Future Focus Foundation). It was indeed insightful and productive.

LET US DO MORE TOGETHER. #PARTNER WITH US.

Institutionalizing anti-corruption campaign in our school curriculum from the grassroots.

This campaign and launch was carried out in partnership with Youth Health and Social Reforms YOHESOR; Federal Ministry of Education; United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO, and Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC.

This initiative as agreed upon and launched by all stakeholders, is to create a separate module in our curriculum on anti-corruption distinct from civic studies. With this, we can begin reiterating on the difference between right and wrong from the grassroots – to stop corrupt practices from becoming the norm in our society… also, to change the picture codes in some schools – replacing corrupt superhero images with images like “No to guns” “No to smoking” “No to fighting” “No to stealing” etc. in picture codes.

IMPACT: Fosters a generation committed to making a positive difference.
